blogging commencement

breaking the first rule of personal blogs, mixing it up with work stuff.

oh well... i'm going to blog bentley's graduation ceremony (undergrad at least). thought it would be fun and there may be people out there interested in tuning in from afar. the last two blogger conferences i attended were being blogged by the attendees and live feeds were set up so people from afar could hear all the sessions and make comments as necessary. jeff jarvis' session on blogging as a business was interesting because he used a wiki to post ideas as they were created in the session and people who weren't there but were listening online made comments on the ideas as they were inputted into the wiki. it was pretty cool.

The Greenhouse School Silent Auction

If you are planning on bidding on an auction item this friday, this is the place to do it. My daughter's school is having an auction to raise money. If they raise this money in the month of April, the amount will be matched by a grant. So, come back here Friday night to see photos and descriptions of items.

The Accidental Minister

Well I performed a marriage ceremony yesterday. i was ordained by a church in california and am ordained for life. i can perform all types of ceremonies (except circumcision thank god!). so if any of you out there in the blogosphere need a quickie marriage just email me.

i'm thinking about making myself available for marrying people during the great gay marriage gold rush next month. is there a website set up? i'll have to check that out.

did the ceremony at the cliff house in ogunquit, maine. its one of two gay tourist meccas in these parts.

maybe i should read up on marriage license requirements .

I FIGURED IT OUT!

this is getting embarrassing; i'm cutting and pasting code into my template to make my page better. now if i can figure out an easier way to make links in the text.

i'm going to do this easy one as an example of what i'm talking about.

today, a volunteer from john kerry's campaign came to my door to solicit support and a donation.

now for me to make those links, i have to open a new window and then find the page i want to link to, do a rudimentary cut and paste and then import it that way. seems cumbersome.

but fun!

learning about bloggin, eating some pizza

how's this stuff work? i'm sure most new blogs start out this way. how do i make it look cool? how do i create a blogroll? who has time to read this stuff? the linking part seems to be somewhat cumbersome. am i doing it right?

halley-wan, you're my only hope...

is it poor form to post twice in one day? i'm psyched because i figured out how to link up my comments. had to copy and paste html! i'm always making fun of bloggers who wax on about their techie breakthroughs (of course this fun poking is happening in my head until today). adam curry's blog is particularly guilty of this -- luckily, he's so cute and smart that i forgive him his techie leanings.

babies who take naps give their parents the most precious gift: uninterrupted time at home.

i'm going to let my little corner of the world know today that i've started blogging. i'm scared...

Get thee to the blog...

Get thee to the blog... When I first started reading listservs in 1991 on a VAX machine at Virginia Tech, my favorite was alt.music.fan.courtneylove. courtney started her first post with a variation on the above quote - "get thee to the net..." for those of us who were "online" (an anachronistic term), being on a fan site and having the celebrity post was a novel and thrilling experience. courtney love posted in the same way she orates -- stream of consciousness, showing a healthy level of intelligence, but also displaying the manic-depressive state that seems to plague her, especially lately. when she wrote, it was a combination of feminist thought, greek philosophy, and pop culture diatribes. many times, the abysmal typing often left the message incomprehensible. but i went there every day (from school because we didn't have home access then) to check to see if she had posted.

the world has changed since then. everyone is "online" and celebrities are accessible via ET or their dedicated fansites. courtney's site used to be interesting when she participated in the discussion board but lately has been eerily silent and void of any discussion of what has been happening to her and the media frenzy surrounding it. but back then, courtney's toe-dipping in internet communication to her fans showed a prophetic sense of the future and a genuine admiration for those of us who "get" her.

so, i don't want to blow my wad on my first post. so here it goes. i'm sure no one will read this so for now it is my personal online diary.
